Monitoring of Aquatic Environments Using Passive Samplers
A review is given on the development of passive samplers for aquatic environments. Passive samplers that are simple and easy to use and with minimal consumption of organic solvents to desorb the analytes from the trapping media are focused. New developments in quality assurance procedures are highlighted.
متن کاملPolyethylene devices: passive samplers for measuring dissolved hydrophobic organic compounds in aquatic environments.
We demonstrate the use of polyethylene devices (PEDs) for assessing hydrophobic organic compounds (HOCs) in aquatic environments. Like semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs) and solid-phase microextraction (SPME), PEDs passively accumulate HOCs in proportion to their freely dissolved concentrations. Polyethylene-water partition constants (K(PEW)S) were measured in the laboratory for eight polyc...
متن کاملGlobal Aquatic Passive Sampling (AQUA-GAPS): using passive samplers to monitor POPs in the waters of the world.
The Stockholm Convention (SC) on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) has highlighted the global risk(s) posed by organic contaminants that are persistent, bioaccumulate, are prone to long-range transport, and have the potential to cause adverse effects in humans and wildlife (1). As a result of the SC, monitoring programs are underway to record concentrations of POPs across the globe over time...
متن کاملPolyurethane foam (PUF) passive samplers for monitoring phenanthrene in stormwater.
Pollution from highway stormwater runoff has been an increasing area of concern. Many structural Best Management Practices (BMPs) have been implemented for stormwater treatment and management. One challenge for these BMPs is to sample stormwater and monitor BMP performance. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using polyurethane foam (PUF) passive samplers (PSs) f...
متن کاملExposure of UK industrial plumbers to asbestos, Part I: Monitoring of exposure using personal passive samplers.
Epidemiological data suggest that there has been and may continue to be a significant risk to maintenance workers, who through their work may disturb asbestos-containing materials (ACM). The sampling and assessment of maintenance workers' exposure is a particular problem because they may not know that they are working with ACM. A strategy to monitor their true exposure has been developed and ap...
